The slab doesn't even look good to me. All bad. Where's RipkenInTheMinors when you need him? I haven't seen him in forever. Also, his site is still up but the images are all missing.
My changed to a penny from my Penn State logo a week ago. Who knows, who cares. In my case, maybe it's an omen about Penn State. Look at the "frost line" on the left side of the holder. When you crack a PSA holder, if you get a clean crack, the first thing you see is this frost line, down or up from where you're cracking.
I'm not that familiar with the card, but the case sure looks compromised. Otherwise, looks like it's either a fake slab with a fake card, or PSA slabbed a fake.
Now, I suppose anything is possible, but it would be fairly difficult to get a card through that space between the disruption and where the frost line stops. I could be done, but I would think you would see some scratching or other disruptions on the card Thanks Don for the link back here.
I would run from that card. Nothing about the card appears authentic. This of course begs the question if PSA slabbed a counterfeit. My apologies about the site. A glitch with the server broke the image links.
Life circumstances have kept me away from fixing the site. Someone is about to lose their shirt. Based on the slab it was graded pre PSA changed the flip at that time for the Charlotte issues. Good to see you back on here Chris! So the same seller has this Rochester Redwings Ripken card, and it has consecutive cert number to the Charlotte O's card. It appears that PSA may have slabbed that counterfeit.
Does anyone have access to VCP so they can see if there is a history of any sale along with a scan of that particular Charlotte O's card and cert number? They have been the source when it comes to buying a legit Ripken. Anyone know Joe O's e-mail address? I would love to be able to alert him and get his thoughts. After the fire was put out and everything was clear, temporary seating was put up for the O's to finish in what still existed of Crockett Park.
The roster for the O's included Cal Ripken's brother Billy, who played for Charlotte in both the '85 and '86 seasons. In , the O's would advance to the playoffs against the Jacksonville Expos, but would and lose in the league finals against the White Sox affiliate Birmingham Barons.
Cal Ripken was a star in Charlotte well before he was a star in Baltimore. On April 3, , nearly 24 years after he first appeared in a Charlotte O's uniform, Ripken returned to the area for a special Opening Day appearance at Knights Stadium. On the field it was the season that really made me believe that I could play in the big leagues.
I think I hit 25 home runs and made the All-Star Team. Off the field, I remember the fans being really passionate about baseball and caring a lot about the team. It felt special to play. This is a great honor for me and now that I am a minor league owner I look forward to seeing the operation in Charlotte and maybe stealing a few ideas.
The event was a huge success and over 8, fans came out to watch Ripken, as well as the Knights beat the Richmond Braves Jon Adkins was the winning pitcher for the Knights.
