Kells was a very nice place with great beers and food. But the dinner menu was very small and there wasnt much variety 2 choose from. Don't get me wrong the food was delicious, I just would have liked to see a little more choices in a place claiming to be a restaurant as well as a bar. My husband enjoys the food and ambience here, so every time we are in Seattle this is one of our stops.
My meal was particularly good this time bacon wrapped scallops. Table inside near the open patio door allows views and salt air but avoids the omnipresent seagull problem! Nice option in good weather, but food good anytime. We made reservations for two at 7pm. When we arrived there were only two other tables with people. Never a good sign.
Folks working here must be Irish as we had difficulty understanding some of there small talk. There were no recommendations as to what to order. Advertised live entertainment daily The food was fine, but apparently this does not become a vibrant scene until much later in the evening. We wish we had chosen The Pink Door across the alley. It was hopping when we arrived at Kell's and when we left an hour later. A true Pike Place Market treasure. Unpretentious, great vibe, great food, great service, a beautiful soul that has not been ruined over the years.
Stopped in for lunch after walking the Pike Mkt, and what a great quiet place. Hard to find Guinness on tap on the waterfront, but excellent cold pints served here. Corn beef sandwich and Clam Chowder was excellent, and even offered to split the lunch in half when we shared the lunch. Staff are all friendly and seem to truly enjoy working there. Granted the bar was not crowded for lunch, but there was no rush on us to get moving and the quiet place with a cold pint was the best after a long day of walking and shopping.
Highly recommended! Went for the first time with a group of 6 for lunch. The service was great, food delicious and the ambience felt like you had stepped into the Emerald Isle. I will definitely return! Shepherds pie is off the charts. Great pub atmosphere! Service is a bit slow. Memorable pasties!
Fun entertainment! A friendly Irish Pub atmosphere great staff fun and authentic. Definate must go when in Seattle Pikes Market alley neighborhood. My fiancee and I ate here on New Years Eve, expecting more of a pub food style of menu. But the food turned out to be much better than that.
We both had excellent meals, good drinks, and good service. We got in a little early for the NYE crowd; by the time we left the place was hopping! Food was bland and over cooked. We had Irish Lamb stew which was bland and flavorless. The scallop special was completely overcooked and served with potatoes that were so overcooked there was barely any potato left on them.
Service was incredibly slow. Water is served in very small glasses and with slow service, it was like we were constantly out of water and thirsty. Menu wasn't that exciting to me. Definitely look at it online before you go to make sure there are things you would enjoy eating. I had a hard time picking anything that sounded good.
Servers all seemed pre-occupied when I walked in to ask a question. In the bar area, service was not at all often, for drinks, one expects more. In the restaurant, server was okay, not too friendly but all food items were correct and service timing much better there. A place to get a quick bite. Typical bar fare. I didn't know what to expect in an Irish restaurant. We loved the special bacon wrapped scallops. The farls and pasties were delicious, as was the baked brie.
Then we went to the bar side of the restaurant for traditional Irish music. Lots of fun. Great music. Happy crowd. Excellent service. It was great fun staying in downtown Seattle, able to come and go from Post Alley coffee, lunch, and later dinner without needing a car or driving in traffic. We'll do it again! Kell's didn't have my Open Table reservation. Fortunately, they had room for us. Skip to Main Content. Sign up Sign in. Full List of Metros. There was a separate door that would lead you to the funeral chapel.
The main floor could hold people and the balcony could hold There was a separate balcony for the choir. The first floor would also have another room for their best caskets.
In , the highest casket in this room would cost almost nine hundred dollars. This showroom was for the wealthiest families that Seattle had to offer. The floor below the main floor was still above ground.
This contained fireproof vaults. This would allow the bodies to be stored for long periods of time. This was a much-needed item during the time because it took people a long time to decide what they wanted to do with their deceased family members. Plus, this was the only place in the city and much of the United States that offered these services. The basement, where the pub is located, was once a housing unit for their heating services.
It would also house stables and the funeral wagons that were used. Before this was a pub, you know it was a mortuary. This mortuary was built for the many dead bodies that were produced during the beginning of the s. There were many deaths caused by mining accidents, violence, and plague.
It is said that the bodies that arrived here were patients of a doctor named Linda Hazard. She believed that you would treat any disease by starvation. She would starve all of her patients. They were only allowed to have thin broth. Plus, she also gave them enemas regularly. It is said that a piece of this dark history as attached and clung onto the new establishment. This means that the pub today is housing many spirits and it is haunted.
It is said that ghosts are attached to the good vibes that the bar gives off, after all, young people are living life to their fullest. Ghosts love to soak up this positive energy. It is said that there are two ghosts that are considered regulars.
The first is a little girl who has red hair. She is a prankster and the guests know it. She will play pranks on adults, however, she really wants to play with other children who enter the restaurant.
During the daytime, you are allowed to have children inside the pub. This is when the little red-headed girl is very active. This little girl has been known to manipulate things and even make toys for other children. No one knows exactly who this little girl is, however, it is assumed that she is one of the many children who had died in from the flu.
This girl is only looking for someone to play with. The second regular is known as Charlie. He is known to pop up and manifest the Guinness mirror and then will disappear.
When bands are playing is when Charlie appears most often. You know that it is Charlie because he is an older man who can be seen wearing a derby hat. He is a happy spirit that is only there to soak up the positive vibes that the bar has to offer.
It is said that there are many other ghosts lingering in the pub, however, the two mentioned above the ones who make themselves known most often. With that being said, there are some crazy things that happen in the bar as well. People have seen glasses slide off the bar and table even if no one is around. Mirrors will shatter randomly and plaster will fall off the walls. The pub was once a well-known mortuary for Seattle. It was one of the first in the United States. That means there were a lot of dead bodies and spirits in and out of the place.
Some of the spirits have never left and those are the ones that you see and hear about today. From the little red-headed girl and Charlie to many others. Keep in mind that these ghosts and spirits are only soaking up positive energy. They are not looking to harm or scare you. In fact, the little girl is only looking for someone to play with.
She is just a kid after all.
